What is it?
The Project Founding Document (PAD), also known as the Project Charter in PMI® terminology, is a critical foundation of successful project management. Created during the preparation phase, the PAD defines project objectives, scope, deliverables, schedule, milestones, key resources, roles and responsibilities, and early risk identification with mitigation plans.

A well-prepared PAD ensures clarity from the start. It aligns stakeholders, sets expectations, and provides a reference point for managing scope, time, and cost changes throughout the project. It directly contributes to project success by enabling structured decision-making and accountability.
